From the analysis of literary narratives from Carolina Maria de Jesus and filmic narratives from Ozualdo Candeias, I want to trace a genealogy of last year s Brazilian s popular culture, which I nominate modified popular culture. I talk about a specific popular culture born on the outskirts of large urban centers in Brazil and which aims to challenge, in some way, the aesthetic and political order established.
