This thesis strives to discover alternative routes in psychosis. Routes that aren’t exclusively paternal ones. Routes used, neither in the paternal metaphor, nor in the delirious metaphor. We shall work with the idea that a stabilising element of the chain can be found in both operations. This element can be used either from the symbolic order or the imaginary order. Once the paternal routes discussed, we will engage in an analysis of what we shall call ground routes. They are alternative routes, which can lead to a sense of stabilisation. In order to tackle this question, we shall take a brief look at Jacques Lacan’s work from the 1950’s to the 1970’s, and his theory of the Borromean Knot, in which the Name-of-the- Father is one, among others, of the signifieds able to play the leading role of the chain unifying signifier. Throughout the thesis, we shall be leaning on the work done in the Psychiatric Hospital of Jurujuba with patients who live in the Shelter. In order to approach the question of possible new routes in psychosis, we shall use two words that seem particularly eloquent: Guests and Pilgrims.
