Resumo:
The study debates how music can help the activity of Social Work in the vitalization of the older´s critical and creative potentials, due to their self confidence and recreational capacity. The qualitative perspective was adopted, using classical instruments of research: participant observation, interviews, and document analysis. The researched group, there were people who used the services from CEMASI São Judas Tadeu in Cosme Velho. Although music favoring the old people`s memory, the analysis of the data it demonstrates that the discontinuity of the programs affects a possible increase on the contribution of this art in the daily life of the investigated group. This way, it was evidenced that music provides the interaction of the group through non- verbal ways of communication, moreover it favors moments of musical creation.
