[pt] O presente estudo tem como objetivo central destacar as implicações da refuncionalização da política de assistência social na intervenção dos assistentes sociais, a partir da década de 90, tendo como parâmetros as definição de Seguridade Social pela Constituição de 1988 e o projeto ético-político forjado pela categoria nas últimas décadas. Partindo das determinações das mudanças no padrão de acumulação capitalista, da reforma do Estado brasileiro e suas inflexões nas políticas sociais, em especial, na política de
assistência social, o estudo focaliza as expressões municipais da política centrada em programas sociais emergenciais, cuja tônica incide nas características de focalização, seletividade e descentralização.
Como referência empírica, foram pesquisados os municípios de Magé e Itaboraí, na tentativa de compreender através da política de assistência e da intervenção dos assistentes sociais, os elementos gerais que caracterizam a reconfiguração da assistência no país.

[en] The present study has the main objective to evidence the implications of the social assistence s politic in the intervention of the social assistents, starting at 90 s decade, having as basis the mening of the Social Segurity by the Constitution of 1988 ande the ethical-political project, created by the category in the
last decades. Having the determinantions of the model changes in the capitalist acumulations, in the
brazilian State reform and it`s inflections in the social politics, in special, in the social assistence politic, the study focus the towns expressions in the politic focused in the emergencial social programs, which tonic implies in the focus, sectively and descentralization s caracteristics. As empiric reference the tows of Magé e Itaboraí whe ressearched, as try of understanding through the assistence politic ande the social assistences intervention, the general elements, which give caracteristics the reconfiguration of the assistence in the country.
