Resumo:
The objective of the present dissertation was to emphasize the relevance of Winnicott's concept of creativity, in the understanding of contemporary discontent. Based on the sociological and psychoanalytical literature, this study considered that present society induces a peculiar form of psychic suffering here denominated as creative fragilty, mainly characterized by the feeling of existential emptiness. In accordance with Winnicott's theory, that emphasizes the importance of the environment for the building up of creative experience, this dissertation hypothesized that current society does not provide the necessary support for creativity, but on the contrary stimulates the experience of helplessness, which interferes with creativity.
