Resumo:
The aim of this study is to identify, describe and analyze the presence of possible crossovers and mediations of children`s television viewing in their relationship with widescreen cinema. This study has been carried out with a group of approximately thirty children aged between 8 and 13 years who had never been in the position of viewers in a projection room before. This study integrates the second phase of the research developed by the Education and Media Research Group (GRUPEM), entitled: Children, television and moral values. This exploratory study was based on field observations, workshops and individual or group interviews; its registers - casebooks, audio and video recordings - were also submitted to a qualitative analysis. From the theoretical perspective, it points out the Theory of Mediations, which guides reception studies in Latin America, as a significant approach to problem analysis and understanding, since it deals with the relative roles, qualifications and possibilities of the emitter, perceives the receptor as an active participant in his/her relationship with the media and analyzes the factors that interfere in this process. The results show that television mediations have definitely altered the texture of these children`s everyday experiences. There is significant evidence that the television holds a distinguished position in the processes of generation of meaning in their experiences with the cinema.
