Resumo:
The articulations in social networking of a group of carioca training architects, is the subject of this thesis, which chapters – inquiries, interconnections, confrontation, and case studies – are developed as a proposal for historiographical revision. Inquiries, which are derived from the critical rereading of Reyner Banham s work, the current movement of disregard for the maintenance and indiscriminate demolition of brutalist buildings, the reading of texts that reproduce the architectural debates in the post-Brasília period and the observation of a possible cleavage between discourse and fact, present in some of these texts – a likely reason why this architecture was interpreted, at the time, by conceptual paradigms that had probably been surpassed, which the articulation with fundamentals of Reinhard Koselleck s History of Concepts help to understand. Interconnections, analysedin the theoretical field of Communicative Action, formulated by Jürgen Habermas, which were evidenced through 6 interviews and research in 1726 magazines – publications that confirmed the contemporaneity of the carioca architectural production with the debates taking place in the cosmopolitan context of the 1960s-70s, shaping a lifeworld as a substrate for critical validity claims to occur and, therefore, opening the way for a new state of affairs. Confrontation, through the investigation of 3 possible origins – rational, analytical, and brutalist – for this stance, concluding with three emblematic case studies of the period – the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), the Piraquê Food Products Industry, and the Rio Sul Tower – according to the categories of modular coordination, systemic coordination, and materiality, created as tools to prove the hypothesis proposed in this work. Finally, a branching of the brutalist movement was confirmed in the architectural production of a group of carioca architects, which has the analytical character proposed by Jorge Czajkowski in 1985, who formulated but did not deepen the analyses of the problem. A problem that, at the brink, marks a distinction of the architectural production of the carioca-trained architects in the 1960s-70s from the historiographically consolidated Carioca School of Modern Architecture and also from the Paulista Brutalist School. The historiographical review proposed here suggests the reversal of the rhetoric of decadence, which permeates this production in the context of architectural theory and history, which becomes possible by the realisation that, in the 1960s-70s, there was a socialisation network in which knowledge was shared, and new repertoires were formed, which were mobilised in projects developed in harmony with current technologies and with the international debate in the architectural world of that contemporaneity. In this sense, a broad front of research opens up, that could once again be part of the architectural debate that, as Habermas proposed, constitutes one of the aspects of the shared intersubjectivity in the lifeworld, in the field of architectural theory and history.
