The thesis Editing in literature and contemporary cinema: memory and modularity in the digital domain approaches the narrative construction of literary and cinematographic works of the beginning of this century through an editing perspective. It explores, through editing, how time, space and point of view are articulated nowadays, in regards to the representation of subjectivity, and the relationship between time and memory. To discuss these issues we concentrated on three main areas: the intensification in recent years of the use of spatial editing, yielded by the advent of new image manipulation software; editing as a protohypertextual operation; and the role of editing from a standpoint of the proliferation of recontextualized archives. Strongly related to the presence of a modularity that permeates our daily lives, the temporal rearrangement of contemporary narratives has been undermining not only the Aristotelian canon, but also the strategies used by the literature and the art cinema of the twentieth century. The analysis of the corpus, among other works, is composed of novels such as Nada me faltará, by Lourenço Mutarelli (2010), and Prova Contrária, by Fernando Bonassi (2003), and films such as The Tracey s Fragments (2007), Caché (2005) e Ciudad de Los signos (2009).
