The importance of Accounting for companies is given by its role of providing the necessary tools to plan processes, evaluate performance and execute activities, according to Padoveze (2012). The study evaluates and discusses the application of accounting in micro and small enterprises in the district of Leblon, south zone of Rio. In the managerial scope, 100 per cent of the companies interviewed responded that they use Accounting for legal purposes. 73 per cent have Balance Sheets and Income Statement. The companies that produced the reports themselves and those that did not produce showed different results in their financial indicators. Those producing reports had higher indicators than the other group. Other characteristics of accounting used in Leblon will be discussed in the study.
