This work presents the approach used to simulate the behavior of slender unidimensional structures under various loading conditions, including the condition of large displacements and plasticity. The Finite Element Method, available in commercial softwares, was used to achieve this goal, and the obtained results compared with known analytical solutions. Three different cases were considered: a) small displacements analysis in the elastic material regimen, b) large displacements in the elastic regimen and c) large displacements including plasticity. In all cases, the finite element solution was validated and the best finite element model suitable for each problem was chosen.
