Resumo:
Despite their wide use in engineering and due to it s complexity, the subject of curved beams is not a common subject in undergraduate Solid Mechanics courses. The aim of this project is to present a sound procedure to perform stress analysis and calculate displacements of curved beams, regardless their initial geometries and loadings. Thus, the obtained analytical results for four tested cases – a semicircular aircraft fuselage beam, a fish hook, a crane hook and a frame - were compared to solutions provided by numerical simulations based on Finite Element method procedures. These comparative analyses result that the proposed calculation technique is appropriate to applications to a wide range of curved beam geometries.
