Resumo:
Project Management methodologies advocate that they can be widely applied; however, by supporting a high complexity image and their intangible main profits, they are not widely applied. This dissertation aims at presenting the Project Management methodologies and their profits that an application can come up to. To accomplish this aim, first, this study presents a bibliographic overview of main Project Management methodologies and informs how they are developed, published and brought up to date. PMI methodology is emphasized at this study. Afterwards, the Project Management methodologies application is evaluated in a practice case covering the Brazilian pipeline network structural integrity. The investigation was made through an analysis of a national pipeline transportation concerning the business context, some accidents that took place and the creation of important programs related with the environment management and operational security. Finally, it presents the structure of one program that it was elaborated based on Project Management methodologies and a critical analysis of showed results. The data analysis suggests that the application of Project Management methodologies promotes a significant profit: the project control allowing the principal take a decision since the moment that some execution problems happen. Thus, the gap between the previous plan and the Project execution is overcame.
