Resumo:
The World Economic Forum has identified biodiversity loss and ecosystem collapse as one of the top five threats humanity will face in the next ten years, and highlighted that half the world s total GDP is potentially at risk as a result of the dependence of business on nature. The Convention on Biological Diversity points out that life on Earth is declining at an unprecedented rate across the planet and negotiates the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, which will set targets to be met by 2030. Deep changes in business practices are necessary, as well as in the frameworks and standards that guide the companies’ management of its impacts and dependencies on biodiversity. To face these challenges, new requirements in biodiversity, whether regulatory, market or global, are being prepared by several institutions, and will be published in the coming years. This work seeks to gather current requirements and assess where future demands point, allowing companies to anticipate new requirements. It also seeks to evaluate standards and frameworks from international organizations, which guide business strategies and practices in biodiversity, consolidating them in a set of management guidelines, structured in 10 elements. These guidelines aim to support the process of improving the companies’ strategic management on biodiversity. The potential contribution resulting from the implementation of the proposed guidelines was correlated with the global biodiversity targets, which are currently being approved, allowing for an understanding of how companies can leverage them.
