The Center for Adult Education at PUC-Rio (NEAd), developed in the period 1999/2002, within the scope of the Great Urban Centers Project, a proposal for the formation of community educators in Rio/Greater Rio. The investigation of this experience - contextualized in the field of Youth and Adult Education - EJA - is the object of this dissertation whose main objective is to recover this training proposal. Identify, understand, outline possible specificities that stand out in that experience, seeking to highlight emerging contributions to teacher education in general today. Therefore, it presents a panoramic view of how this movement emerges on the campus of university, consolidating the NEAd itself. Highlights the relevance of the work performed articulated with the values of a community university. The theoretical framework is based on: Soares ((2014, 2016a, 2016b); Tardiff (2014, 2000, 1991); Diniz (2010); Pimenta (1997); Santos (2014a, 2014b, 2007, 2006). The research used a qualitative approach and integrated different data collection procedures: documentary research and semi-structured interviews. Resuls recognized characteristics of the formation of EJA teachers, raising possible contributions to teacher education in general as: a) construction dynamics collaborative learning and negotiation of knowledge, b) joint production of didactic and educational materials; c) a self-training process, based on the recognition of knowledge from the experience of the course participants; d) critical reflection on the practice, based on the culture and knowledge of reference that the course participants brought with them. Finally, the research highlights the contribution of memory studies to the field of EJA and Popular Education in Brazil.
