[pt] Seguir os materiais é uma postura ética e epistemológica que reposiciona a arquitetura como prática de escuta, cuidado e coabitação com humanos e não humanos. Partindo desse pensamento, essa dissertação investiga a relação entre forma, matéria e materialidade na arquitetura contemporânea, partindo da crítica ao modo como a modernidade tratou a matéria como suporte passivo para a ação humana. Ao reconhecer a agência dos materiais, pode-se abrir espaço para práticas mais situadas, críticas e responsáveis diante das crises da atualidade. Propõe-se então compreender os materiais como agentes ativos, capazes de participar da constituição do mundo e, assim, provocar deslocamentos na prática arquitetônica. A pesquisa estrutura-se em diálogo com o debate filosófico da virada material, com autores que defendem a vitalidade e a agência material, como Tim Ingold, além de aportes da teoria e da crítica arquitetônica, como a de Antoine Picon. O objetivo central é propor um entendimento ampliado de materialidade, ultrapassando o dualismo formamatéria e reconhecendo os fluxos, processos e histórias incorporados nos materiais. A metodologia combina revisão bibliográfica interdisciplinar e leitura de projetos arquitetônicos recentes que tensionam convenções e ativam novas formas de pensar e fazer arquitetura.

[en] Follow the materials is an ethical and epistemological stance that repositions architecture as a practice of listening, care, and cohabitation with humans and non-humans alike. Based on this thought, this dissertation investigates the relationship between form, matter, and materiality in contemporary architecture, starting from a critique of how modernity treated matter as a passive substrate for human action. By recognizing the agency of materials, it becomes possible to create space for more situated, critical, and responsible practices in the face of current crises. The research thus proposes the understanding of materials as active agents, capable of participating in the constitution of the world and of shifting architectural practice. It is structured in dialogue with the philosophical debate of the material turn and with authors who advocate for the vitality and agency of matter, such as Tim Ingold, as well as contributions from architectural theory and criticism, such as those of Antoine Picon. The central aim is to propose an expanded understanding of materiality, one that goes beyond the form-matter dualism and acknowledges the flows, processes and histories embodied in materials. Methodologically, the dissertation combines an interdisciplinary literature review with the reading of recent architectural works that challenge conventions and activate new ways of thinking and making architecture.
