[pt] Terry Kurgan é artista visual, escritora e pesquisadora associada a Wits Intitute for social and Economiic Research (WISER). Radicada em Johannesburg, África do Sul, Kurgan centra seu trabalho em fotografias - imagens públicas e privadas. Ela está particularmente interessada nas complexas colaborações entre o fotógrafo e o ser humano, e na forma como a fotografia registra e inventa o mundo. Em seu livro, Everyone is present (2018), a artista entrecruza as fotografias e diários de seu avô materno com a escrita ensaística. A narrativa não ficcional reconstrói o deslocamento forçado dos avôs maternos de Kurgan, Tusia e Jasek Kallir, após a invasão alemã. Eles saíram de Bielsko na Polônia para a Cidade do Cabo na África do Sul. A família polonesa judia inicia uma jornada em busca de um lugar possível para viver. [en] Terry Kurgan is a visual artist, writer, and researcher associated with the Wits Institute for Social and Economic Research (WISER). Based in Johannesburg, South Africa, Kurgan focuses her work on photographs - both public and private images. She is particularly interested in the complex collaborations between photographer and human being, and in the way photography records and invents the world. In her book, Everyone is present (2018), the artist interweaves her maternal grandfather s photographs and diaries with essay writing. The nonfiction narrative reconstructs the forced displacement of Kurgan s maternal grandparents, Tusia and Jasek Kallir, after the German invasion. They left Bielsko, Poland for Cape Town, South Africa. The Polish-Jewish family embarks on a journey in search of a place where their lives were possible to exist. In this interview, Terry Kurgan talks about the process of interweaving images, the history of the Shoah, the experience of forced migration and the research carried out to (re)construct this memory. In Kurgan s words, This book was a slow gestation, growing out of more than twenty-five years of visual arts pratice about photography.
