[pt] Empujando los límites, título desta pesquisa, refere-se ao modo como os arquitetos paraguaios Solano Benítez e Gloria Cabral buscam expandir as limitações impostas pelo seu contexto econômico, geográfico e social, em um processo no qual o conhecimento acerca das propriedades dos materiais e a prática no canteiro de obras permitem a criação de novas formas de construir e a invenção de novos materiais de construção. Refere-se ainda à redefinição das fronteiras entre categorias. Neste estudo, considerei também, como objeto de análise, a obra dos arquitetos japoneses Kazuyo Sejima e Ryue Nishizawa uma vez que buscam produzir edifícios capazes de integrar binarismos e dissolver suas hierarquias: como entre arquitetura e paisagem, interior e exterior, público e privado, estrutura e fechamento, entre diferentes usos e qualidades de espaços ou entre elementos da estrutura. A partir do estudo da teoria feminista contemporânea - que compreende que o tema da natureza não pode ser dissociado da ideia de gênero e propõe que a matéria e a natureza não são submissas ao mesmo tempo em que não possuem uma essência imutável - surge a compreensão de que a arquitetura responde a essas questões contemporâneas ao se engajar com a materialidade, permitindo que a natureza, por meio da expressão da qualidade dos materiais, das forças da gravidade ou da ação do tempo, se revele nas obras construídas; bem como ao buscar incessantemente a dissolução das hierarquias características da disciplina - a maior delas, entre natureza e cultura.

[en] Empujando los límites the title of this research, refers to the way Paraguayan architects Solano Benítez and Gloria Cabral seek to expand the limitations imposed by their economic, geographic, and social context. In this process, their knowledge of material properties and hands-on experience on the construction site allows for the creation of new ways of building and the invention of new construction materials. It also refers to the redefinition of boundaries between categories. In this study, I also considered, as part of my analysis, the work of Japanese architects Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa, who aim to produce buildings capable of integrating binary oppositions and dissolving their hierarchies: such as between architecture and landscape, interior and exterior, public and private, structure and enclosure, and between different uses and qualities of spaces or structural elements. Based on the study of contemporary feminist theory - which understands that the theme of nature cannot be dissociated from the idea of gender and proposes that matter and nature are not submissive, while also not possessing an immutable essence - comes the understanding that architecture responds to these contemporary issues by engaging with materiality, allowing nature, through the expression of the quality of materials, the forces of gravity, or the passage of time, to reveal itself in the built works; and by incessantly striving for the dissolution of the hierarchies characteristic of the discipline - the greatest of which is that between nature and culture.
