[pt] As favelas, anteriormente vistas como símbolos de desordem, tornaram-se elementos essenciais da cidade, representando a dualidade entre formal e informal, ordem e desordem. A pesquisa destaca que a experiência de morar em uma favela é complexae diversa, contestando estereótipos simplistas. Com o objetivo de compreender a heterogeneidade de vivências no espaço urbano carioca, esta dissertação busca definira categoria de estudo favela suburbana, a partir da experiência do caso do Jacarezinho. Neste estudo de caso, busca-se entender a identidade do favelado sob uma perspectiva que engloba as especificidades de uma favela suburbana, considerando sua localização e história. O estudo contextualiza a formação das favelas, a suburbanização e a dicotomia centro-periferia no contexto do Rio de Janeiro, concluindo que o Jacarezinho exemplifica essa categoria devido às suas características socioespaciais.

[en] Favelas, once seen as symbols of disorder, have become essential elements of the city, representing the duality between formal and informal, order and disorder. This research highlights that the experience of living in a favela is complex and diverse, challenging simplistic stereotypes. The urban space is where strategies confront each other, and this dissertation proposes to understand the identity of favela residents fromthe perspective of the suburban favela, focusing on the case of Jacarezinho. The study contextualizes the formation of favelas, suburbanization, and the center-peripherydichotomy concerning the specificities of the city of Rio de Janeiro, concluding that Jacarezinho exemplifies the category of suburban favela due to its location and history.
