[pt] Este estudo toma por objeto a experiência escolar da Antiga Escola da Marambaia, que existiu entre os anos de 1939-1970, na Ilha da Marambaia, município de Mangaratiba-RJ. Ela foi fundada no intuito de dar formação profissional de pesca para filhos de pescadores tradicionais de várias regiões do litoral brasileiro e para os filhos dos pescadores tradicionais que já viviam naquela Ilha. Consideramos que esta Escola foi um grande marco na vida da comunidade em que esteve inserida e que também se constituiu como uma experiência singular no âmbito do ensino industrial no Brasil. Temos como objetivo propor uma compreensão do contexto e dos motivos que levaram a execução deste projeto, assim como os que levaram à sua extinção. Trata-se de um estudo de caso de abordagem histórica, que mescla análise bibliográfica, análise documental e história oral. Para além deste objetivo, buscamos também, investigar como se processou o seu funcionamento administrativo e pedagógico. Desta forma, os capítulos desta dissertação abordam o contexto político e ideológico do período em que a Escola foi criada, assim como as relações entre ela e a comunidade, a sua cultura escolar e como esta foi percebida e recuperada pela memória dos seus ex-alunos e ex-funcionários, que atualmente mantém associações de celebração dos laços sociais estabelecidos a partir da mesma.

[en] The object of this study is the experience of the ancient Marambaia School, which existed from 1939 until 1970, at Marambaia Island, in Mangaratiba, Rio de Janeiro. The school was founded in order to provide fishing professional education to the children of the traditional fishermen who lived in the island and also in different regions of the Brazilian coast. We consider that the school was very important to that community, and that it was a singular experience of industrial education in Brazil.Our purpose is to understand the context and the reasons why the school project was established and finished. This research is a case study with historical approach, which combines bibliographical analysis, documental analysis and oral history. Moreover, we aim to investigate the whole school operation - administratively and pedagogically. Therefore, the chapters of this dissertation analyze the political and ideological context of the time when the school was founded, and also the relations between the school and the community, the school culture, and how this culture was perceived and rescued in the memory of the school’s ex-students and employees, who even nowadays have associations that celebrate the social bonds established by means of this culture.
