The thesis seeks to evaluate whether collaboration mediated by technology can represent an opportunity for artisans in Brazil to gain inclusion to the market. Through the review of bibliographical and statistical information, the thesis gathers information about the potential and the shortcomings of artisanal production in Brazil, and based on the theory of social capital also of the conditions that can limit or promote the development of a community. The text goes on to explore the different forms of collaboration mediated by technology, which have appeared online since the emergence of the Internet 2.0. It is followed by an investigation of the forms of collaboration that exist in the world of craftsmanship and an exploration of affinities between the two. The core investigation of the thesis is based on these findings and consists of studying the mechanisms through which the participation in online co-design platforms can promote the inclusion of artisans in the market.
