This essay aimed to investigate adolescence, focusing on love relations conceptions and experiences on teenagers from Rio de Janeiro`s lower classes, what was made possible through semi-structured interviews including themes such as love, boyfriends/girlfriends, dating, short relationships, sexuality expressions, future ideas of marriage and starting a family. The choice for this social class was due to the perception that the majority of studies concerning love relations refers to people from the upper classes, and we understand that different realities may affect experiences in the teenage period. Using psychoanalytical authors as reference, first it was made theoretical revision on adolescence. Then, love relations were studied as a theme, divided in its transformations through history, followed by results of recent researches, considerations about new relations and specific studies on lower classes. Finally, the results of the field research were presented and discussed, and they pointed to the desire, from the interviewed teenagers, for long lasting relations including affections, what is generally made possible by a period of dating, when the couple get to know each other better.
