The objective of this thesis is to analyze, as an argumentative community, the Revista Americana, that has been published by the Itamaraty, with some interruptions, from 1909 to 1919. The scope of this thesis was based upon some debates` analyzes and the perception and understanding of diplomacy`s new role at the international scenario, pointing out some arguments about South America`s position in the world`s panorama. It is possible to perceive on the pages of the Revista the appreciation of some aspects of South America`s History that clearly express the intention to establish a new idealism for the continent. This appreciation has brought up the idea that the Revista was a space to reflect a new project to South America in which a new identity would be built with some very specific characteristics that have been shaped through out History and that would be established by diplomatic action.
