Resumo:

Portuguese is one of the most spoken languages in the world. Brazil is the largest Portuguese
speaking population in the world and has the largest ETD collection written in this language. This
article analyzes international accesses to PUC-Rio’s ETD collection from June 2004 to April
2010. It is specially concerned with accesses from both Portuguese and Spanish speaking
countries. Data from system access logs are examined and preliminary results are presented. This
work shows the importance of language in the numbers of accesses in general. Future works will
focus this relation with specific areas of knowledge.
