Choosing the best way to run a business is influenced by the work environment, the company s goals and the desired results. The centralized and decentralized management models are are options in search of the best way to manage. This work shows the application of these models in the structure of research laboratories, considering their advantages and disadvantages according to the company s situation. The research was based on interviews with laboratory managers of a research center, in addition to the direct observation of the researcher. In the structure studied, the decentralization was verified by its complexity, but moving towards the centralization in order to optimize it.
