Resumo:
In the present work, the goal is to analyze the efficiency of the Digital Image Correlation technic in determining the elastic mechanical properties of a composite material. In order to do so, tests were conducted in specimens of a composite material made out of fiberglass and epoxy matrix. Those tests made use of the DIC technic, as well as of strain gauges that were glued to specimens, in determining the strains during the application of the load. Then, calculations were made, in order to evaluate the Young’s modulus in the principal direction (E1), the Young’s modulus in the secondary direction (E2), the Poisson’s coefficient (ν12) as well as the shear modulus (G12) of the material. The calculation method is verified by the theory of the stress strain relations, which is revised in the text, and by simulations using the finite elements method, conducted in similar specimens constituted of similar materials. The results found were good, presenting a good correlation between the two strain measuring technics used, and a visible similarity with the expected results.
