The objective of this monograph was to verify whether the sectoral competitive structure, according to Porter s Five Forces model, influences the profitability of U.S. industries. To this end, a quantitative study was conducted with 91 industries, using an artificial intelligence assistant to assess the competitive forces and compare them with financial results for the periods 2019-2023 and 2014-2023. It was observed that the balance among the forces showed a positive correlation with profitability over the 2014-2023 horizon. However, their average intensity did not demonstrate a statistically significant relationship with the industries financial performance. The results suggest that structural configuration matters more for its homogeneity than for the average intensity of the forces.
