Resumo:
The principal objective of this study was to assess the differences in criteria between heterosexual and homosexual men for judging the attractiveness of potential romantic partners. The study consisted of 352 male participants with ages ranging from 18 to 69 years old (M=29.9; SD=10.1), 78.7 of whom were heterosexual and 23.3 of whom were homosexual. The participants represented all geographic regions of Brazil, with 44.6 from the Southeast and 32.3 from the South. The participants responded to a sociodemographic questionnaire, as well as an open question for which they were asked to list the characteristics of their ideal romantic partner. The results showed no significant differences between the responses of heterosexual and homosexual men, suggesting that both ascribe similar degrees of importance to the same characteristics of a potential romantic partner.
