Resumo:
Alzheimers disease is the most common form of dementia, described more than 100 years ago. It is characterized as a neurodegenerative disease causing memory loss, neuronal atrophy, and decline in cognition such as impaired judgment and decisionmaking. To find a cure for the disease and stop its progression, Alzheimer s disease studies have been developed in the last years, and nowadays, risk factors and biomarkers researches on Alzheimer s disease are very well publicized. Neuroimaging techniques are being regularly used to establish a prognosis of dementia and understand the early diagnosis of Alzheimer s disease. However, each modality presents a better understanding of the disease and should converge to facilitate clinical practice. As so, this review consists of reviewing Alzheimer s disease, giving a panorama on the characteristics of each neuroimaging technique available for clinicians, and evaluating how the use of these scans can assist in the diagnose.
