This exploratory study investigated the behavior of Brazilian gamblers in the
Jogo do Tigrinho from the perspective of Prospect Theory. Using an online
questionnaire administered to 57 participants, the research analyzed their
demographic and socioeconomic profiles, engagement patterns, and the
manifestation of cognitive biases. Results revealed a predominantly young
audience, with high frequency and duration of game engagement, and a strong
prevalence of biases such as loss aversion, framing effect, and illusion of control.
Comparative analysis between inferred socioeconomic classes B and D indicated
that financial vulnerability intensifies risk-taking and difficulty in controlling
gambling, driven by the hope of life change. It is concluded that Jogo do Tigrinho
represents a complex phenomenon with significant risk potential, demanding
academic attention and effective public policies.
