The objectives of this senior thesis are examining the speech through which the United States try to exclude Iran from the Modern International and verify how the North American Foreign Policy towards Iran can expose the fluidity of the boundaries that seek to
distinguish Iran from a civilized world. The hypothesis to be analysed is that the American Foreign Policy s ambiguity towards Iran exposes the inconsistency of the discourse of demonization that excludes Iran from the system of states. The demonization of Iran, which is part of exclusion practices inherent to the construction of the North American s
identity as well as to the construction of the modern international, has characteristics that place the relationship between the countries in the trope of civilized and barbarian. However, the United States destabilize the discourse of demonization when its practice contradicts it. The Foreign Policy and the discourse that accompanies it are always vulnerable to contradictions due to the malleable nature of identity, what makes it necessary to constantly contain the tension between rhetoric and practice.
