The purpose of this work is to explain and comment on the theological
virtues (faith, hope and charity) in the magisterium of Benedict XVI, through his
writings, especially in his encyclicals. It is a journey that, although brief, brings a
content of theological depth of the pope emeritus, lived in his academic life since
he was Prefect of the Doctrine of the Faith, in the pontificate of Pope John Paul II.
Thus, the love eros, the love agape, the dialogue between humanity and divinity,
the path of faith in God in the Church and with the Church and the eschatological
reality of hope in a present-future perspective, All these notes allow a mature
reflection on Christianity both for its faithful and for those who do not live the same
Catholic faith, always aiming at a harmony between charity without leaving man s
freedom and, consequently, the truth that he needs to know and seek.
