Culture gained great space in Brazilian policies during the Lula government,
becoming a central element of Brazil s development strategy at the time. Both
internally and externally, the government sought to develop, promote and redefine
its use. At that time, Brazilian cultural diplomacy also became a major pillar of
Brazilian international action as a means of approaching and strengthening
relations with other States. In addition, culture sought to be used to build the
image of a truly diverse country. Given the importance that cultural diplomacy
had in the period between 2003 and 2010, this scientific article sought to
understand how Brazilian music was used in the process of Brazilian international
insertion. By understanding music as one of the main cultural fields capable of
representing Brazilian culture in all its diversity, as well as its historical use in
other moments of Brazilian cultural diplomacy, the work sought to understand its
use in one of the strongest moments of cultural policies in Brazil until today.
