This research aimed to investigate the current scenario of Manguebeat and
propose ways to strengthen the movement without compromising its essence
brought in the early 1990s. To achieve this, secondary data was utilized, and
interviews were conducted with individuals who have a connection to the city of
Recife. The analysis of secondary data allowed us to comprehend the determining
factors that contributed to the creation of Manguebeat as a musical and cultural
movement. Through the interviews, it was possible to perceive the perspective of
the people from Recife regarding the movement in the current phonographic
scene. The results indicate a significant loss of influence of Manguebeat compared
to its initial release in the 1990s. As a result of this study, it is essential to make
new interpretations and update Manguebeat to engage in a dialogue with the new
generations in order to keep the movement alive.
