Resumo:
The study sought to identify the main barriers faced by women to reach and remain in a management position in a Teaching and Research Institution (HEI). Interviews were conducted with five women who currently occupy management positions at the studied HEI. The results indicated that the main barriers faced were: the stereotype of the role of women in society, motherhood, lack of flexible schedules, the double/triple shift of work and personal life and the difficulty in having their competence and professional capacity recognized.
