Resumo:
Economic globalization, the extremely competitive market and unimaginable technological advances have stimulated the search for ways to make industrial products differentiable and more attractive to the market. In this scenario, structural optimization, in particular topological optimization, has received a strong investment in recent decades. Several articles, educational and open codes, and commercial software emerged in order to satisfy the different needs required by the industry. Most computer aided design (CAD) software used for topological optimization are commercial tools, and investment in this type of tool is not always viable. Therefore, this work aims to present the feasibility of using open-source algorithms as possible free alternatives to commercial software. Thus, through a case study, Topological Optimization is analyzed in support structures for racing car spoilers. For this, the educational code top88 and top3d, inspired by Ole Sigmund s top99 (2001) written in Matlab, and the Altair Inspire software are used. Topological optimization results using top88 and top3d are compared and validated with those obtained using Altair Inspire. Finally, this work also presents the main differences, advantages and disadvantages of the tools used in the execution of the optimization processes.
