The connected world is here. Basically any and every object that is part of everyday life, when added to the word intelligent at the end, already means more than mere science fiction. If it is not yet reality, it is not for lack of possibility. This work does not have the audacity to try to exhaust the Internet of Things issue by far, but to set the stage and perhaps be the starting point in the search for the infinite possibilities that the whole connection we are experiencing presents us. We went through a brief summary of the Internet of Things scenario in the last few decades. Then some basic concepts of technologies that make all these achievements possible. Until finally delve into the more specific case of LoRa technology applied to low-cost, low-power and large-scale networks, known as LPWAN s and based on the LoRaWAN protocol. And in this context, we focus more intensively on the LoRaWAN protocol, its architecture, internal classifications and security issues. Various scenarios are also presented where this set of solutions has been widely applied, such as agriculture, monitoring and health.
