Resumo:
The main causes of death in the world are the cardiovascular diseases. Among these, there is the aorta aneurysm, which is characterized by dilated artery diameter. After diagnosis, a surgical procedure can be recommended, otherwise its evolution must be monitored, since the rupture can be fatal. The objective of this work consists in identifying factors that can induce the aortic aneurysm growth, in order to assist in preventive measures. From the tomography angiography of the aorta of three patients in two different years, three-dimensional models were generated. An attempt to correlate the anatomic shape of the aorta with the possibility of aneurysm growth, both in relation to its curvature and the proximity of the aortic valve with the anterior wall, was not conclusive. Thus, hemodynamic patterns in the aortas, in the presence of aneurysms in the ascending portion, were numerically evaluated using the commercial software Fluent to correlate the type of flow with the growth of the aneurysm. The velocity and pressure fields, turbulent variables and shear stresses were investigated in detail, tough most of the results were not conclusive. However, high shear stress levels were observed in a significant portion of the aortic surface area in the case with aneurysm growth, as well as high levels of turbulent kinetic energy near the posterior wall. A larger number of patients should be analyzed to corroborate the conclusions obtained in this study.
