Resumo:
Steel is a metal alloy formed essentially of iron as its basic component and carbon additives (may range from 0.008 percent to 2.11 percent), but can also be found in nickel, tungsten, manganese, chromium, phosphorus, sulfur and among other elements. Resulting from its manufacturing process, this metal alloy is very present in our daily lives because it is very easy to find and produce, making it one of the products that contributed and continues to contribute to economic and technological development of humanity. Therefore, we can see that there are several ways of producing steel to adhere to various utilities, so it is also relevant to think of a way of how or what to do when disposing of this material. This thesis proposes to compare the mechanical properties of steel from spring blades of a truck with the same steel being bent several times as done in an apricot steel fabrication process, demonstrating that we have achieved a new purpose for unused vehicle parts and their intended purposes, such as creating a knife. Steel specimens were then removed before and after this tempering process, both tempered to qualitatively demonstrate through laboratory testing its improvements. By testing hardness, tensile, charpy impact test, fatigue and metallography. It was concluded that steel casting gives it a significant improvement, but still one must think of a way to increase the toughness of the steel as tempering makes it very hard and at the same time very fragile, being a wise way to temper after tempering. For the steel welding process, alternating layers of a more ductile steel are used at the time of bending to make it more tenacious, which is a further advantage of this process. Thus we can confirm that it is possible to remove the bar from a truck spring and reuse it to make an apricot steel knife, which is the welded steel, generating a new utility for unused steel and new profits for society.
