Resumo:
Combustion has great importance in the industry, transportation sectors and electric power generation. However, it is a challenge to reconcile combustion processes with the reduction of environmental impacts. New technologies are being developed for this purpose. Pre-mixed turbulent combustion with lean equivalence ratio is an alternative to reduce the emission of polluting gases in industrial turbines and burners. The combustion technique in the presence of swirl is capable of stabilizing these equipments. The purpose of this work is the study of the influence of the swirl number on the stability of the premixed combustion in a laboratory burner developed to burn hydrocarbons and air in the presence of swirl. Different types of swirlers were developed and analyzed. The observed combustion regimes were classified and mapped in a diagram, identifying the boundaries and stability of the regimes. The laser induced fluorescence technique of the OH radical was used to observe the structure of the flames.
