The characterization of a drill string was the first step of this work. The drill string, which is formed by the connection of several tubular elements, has as main functions to apply weight to the drill, to transmit rotation to the drill bit, to allow the circulation of the drilling fluid to the drill, to maintain the well calibrated and to guarantee the inclination and the direction of the well. Besides the description of the components of a drill string, the working conditions are presented in order to understand the environment in which the fatigue is submitted. Fatigue is the most common form of structural failure in drill string and, over time, has been a challenging problem due to the imposed stresses and the type of load applied. In this work the characterization of a fatigue as well as methods of analysis of fatigue is presented. Fatigue appears when the tubes are subjected to bending rotation which causes the appearance of a cyclic load. The first manifestation of fatigue is the appearance of cracks in the drill pipe, which at first are invisible to the naked eye.
