This study has the objective of mapping the trajectory of young professionals from grassroots classes, former scholarship holders of a private Higher Education Institution from Rio de Janeiro, known as one of the best universities of Latin America, whose public is traditionally formed by social economical elite youngsters, to identify: (i) the aspects that limited or enabled their academic and working path; (ii) the strategies embraced in their trajectory; and (iii) their professional expectations. Thus, this study has tried to understand the construction of careers having as a reference the educational basis, the social influences, their expectations before starting college and, later, the insertion in the job market. The research carried out had qualitative character and the participation of 15 interviewees, former scholarship holders from different courses. The analysis of the results allowed the identification of borders in the social sphere, academic and professional that appeared in their trajectories. The research also identified the role of family support and high standard education as strategies for breaking borders. In this sense, despite the considerations of Bourdieu that discuss the social reproduction, the presence of a cultural and social capital incorporated was verified, resulting from an important adaptation, those former scholarship
holders could overcome challenges, ensuring a qualified insertion in the job market.
