People who were born and live in Rio are known for their hapiness and sympathy. The diverse leisure options that the city offers its residentes and visitors are reflections of this personality. Brasil is undergoing an economic recession, wich had its first reflections in 2015, and is still impacting Brazilians and Cariocas in several socio-economic aspects. This study purpose was, trough qualitative exploratory research, to understand how this recession and its developments are affecting the leisure consumption decisions of cariocas, who live in Rio de Janeiro. The results indicate that the majority of people have changed leisure habits consciously or unconsciously because of their economic situation, or of people close to them, in recent years.
