Resumo:
The current work analyzes the role and the impact of the lyrics of protest songs in the anti war movement in the United States of America in the period from 1962 to 1965. The work initially presents the background historical aspects of the war between Vietnam and the USA to aid the understanding of the relationship of the songs with the historical context, both internal and external of the USA in the period studied. In sequence the lyrics of the most important protest songs are presented and discussed. The work concludes that the protest songs did not have a crucial role in the anti war movement but they were a space for both cultural and polítical dialog and conflict. The songs were at the same time a product and resource for the anti-war movement.
