This paper seeks to understand why restaurant consumers pay for the service fee and what is their perception of establishments charging rates above the standard 10 percent. For this, online self-filling questionnaires with 200 people were carried out, using examples of both 10 percent service charge and above that. Respondents have revealed that they bother with above-standard rates, and consider establishments that do not reveal the percentage being charged dishonest. In addition, it was observed from the analysis of the answers that clients often do not believe that the clerk desserves tips but carry out the procedure through social pressure and embarrassment, some of the respondents themselves didn t even knew that the payment of the service charge is optional.
