Resumo: | |||||||||||||
This paper s main goal is to present an analysis of additive manufacturing and discuss its current applications in the industry. It begins with a brief history of this technique s emergence in manufacturing,
showing its evolution in the last three decades, as well as its current importance in the industrial market. The second chapter is dedicated to an overview of the additive manufacturing technique, touching upon processes details, the main systems and adopted materials. Advantages and limitations of the method
and a comparison with other manufacturing process are also included. In the following chapters, mechanical properties of wrought and metallic printed 17-4 PH stainless steel tension test specimens are compared. Then the case of the Tatuí robot from Insfor, a company that started up at
PUC-Rio s laboratories, is presented. Other parts and prototypes fabricated at the Universities facilities are also discussed. Finally, three case analyses about products fabricated through additive
manufacturing aiming at different applications and industries will be presented. The first group belongs to the aerospace industry; the object consists in metrological probes used to measure the total pressure at the aircrafts engines. The following product is the FHC company s Stereotactic Platforms, exemplifying the numerous 3D printing applications in the healthcare industry. In order to demonstrate the consumer goods
applications, the last analyzed product will be the Adidas Futurecraft 4D footwear, fabricated using the additive layer manufacturing at the company s factory in Germany.
