Resumo:
Nowadays, almost all energy consumed by people is generated on demand.Its storage is represented by different types of gas and water blockages.Given the uprising of energy generation using renewable sources, such as solar and wind power, it is necessary to develop new energy storage methods. Research centres aim their studies to finding an efficient method for such purpose. The objective of this project is to analyse the viability of a new thermal energy storage method, using energy provided by the Sun, within solid particles, a type of sand, rather than the commonly used fluids (as oils and melted sand). In order to do that this project seeks the determination of the heat exchange coefficient of this type of sand when flowing externally to a tube through which water to be heated flows. The result will inform whether or not this type of material can be considered in future energy storage projects.
