The traditional methods for determining the fatigue limit and the SN curve are conservative and developed long since, they require a lot of time and a great number of specimens for the test. In 2000 La Rosa and Risitano presented a method that uses infrared thermography to determine the fatigue properties of materials and components commonly used in the industrial sector. In this project the thermographic method developed by La Rosa and Risitano was applied to determine the properties of carbon steel for the study of fatigue, such as: the limit of fatigue resistance and the Wohler coefficients. The thermographic method consists of measuring the temperature variation between a cyclically loaded specimen and a reference body, which is at room temperature. Twenty specimens were used to analyze the fatigue limit and the SN curve for different loading ratios. In this work the results of 20 specimens were analyzed, however only 2 CP s with R equal minus 1 and R equal 0.5 were tested, being the other 18 results obtained from the reference [1].
