Resumo: | |||||||||||||
Throughout the life of a healthy individual, the arterial wall should regenerate and remodel continuously and also withstand repetitive stresses due to stresses on the wall. In some cases, this supposedly stable system is destabilized due to diseases or other complex processes, and the portion of the arterial wall becomes weakened and consequently distends permanently. The determination of the velocity, pressure and tension distribution related to the blood flow at the entrance of the ascending aorta can help in the design of valves, helping to avoid the aggravation and / or development of cardiovascular diseases. In this work, a numerical study was performed employing the commercial software FLUENT to analyze the influence of the flow rate and flow angle at the entrance of the aortic valve. It was observed that with negative angles, the jet affects the anterior aortic wall, which may increase the mechanical stress of this region. Positive angle is recommended to save the anterior region because it reduces the pressure, and shear stress in that region. It was verified that with the increase of the flow rate (Reynolds number), the jet penetration length inside the aorta is larger, with decrease in the tension levels in the wall, especially for positive injection angles. With these indications, it is possible to improve the positioning of an artificial aortic valve, improving the quality of life of the patient.
