Resumo: | |||||||||||||
Power generation through thermoelectric and other dirty power plants, which aggravate the concentration of toxic gases in the environment, causes problems to human health, and increases emissions of greenhouse gases. These problems provoke global discussions and make generation from renewable sources such as solar, wind, biomass and hydroelectric, become economically viable. However, as a solution to reduce the environmental impact generated by the need for power generation, there is also the possibility of reducing energy demand through demand side management, energy efficiency and energy conservation. In this case, in addition to collaborating for sustainable development, management by the demand side leads directly to the costs reduction for consumers. In this work, energy efficiency solutions will be presented to the Gênesis Institute of PUC-Rio: suggestions for the exchange of inefficient equipment and economic feasibility analysis, optimization of contracted demand, tariff analysis, development of measurement and verification plan and construction of a baseline, based on a linear regression model for energy consumption prediction. All the general and specific objectives proposed in the work were adequately fulfilled. A potential of total savings of 27.27 per cent was reached, which allowed the development of a measurement and verification plan according to option C in the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IMPVP). The regression model used in the study has shown to be effective for predicting electric consumption indicators, with statistical indices within the norms established by the protocol.
