This study aims to analyze the economic and financial performance of plublic
companies in the electric energy industry during the period between the years 2010
and 2014. For this analysis, data from the financial statements of the companies
studied, of the five years, was used to calculate the economic and financial
indicators and its variations. The economic and financial performance has been
studied using the average per year of the indicators of all companies selected for
this study. The performance of the indicators calculated was supported by the
explanations given in the explanatory notes to the financial statements of the
companies studied that wer filed in the Comissão de Valores Mobiliários. From this
study, we concluded that the financial health of the five companies that were
staudied has deteriorated over the fiver years of the study, as a result, manly, of
the poor climatic conditions and government regulations
